The North East LRN covers an area
from the Scottish borders south to Yorkshire and from
the North Sea coast over to Cumbria.
It has a population of around 2.5 million people, including the cities of Newcastle,
Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham,
Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, and
is hosted by the newly formed Northumberland, Tyne and
Wear NHS Trust. The clinical lead is John O'Brien (Old Age Psychiatry) with deputy
David Burn (Neurology) and the LRN has particular research strengths in
non-Alzheimer dementia (especially Lewy body and vascular dementia) and
Parkinson's disease
