Helen Roberts appointed acting lead
for South Coast DeNDRoN

Following the retirement of David Wilkinson, Helen Roberts has been appointed as the acting Clinical Lead for Research for South Coast DeNDRoN. Helen, previously Deputy Clinical Lead for the LRN is a Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Geriatric Medicine based at Southampton General Hospital.
Dr Roberts graduated in medicine from the University of Birmingham in 1984, taking an intercalated degree in Physiology and after junior doctor posts in the south and southwest was appointed in 1994 as a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine to the Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust. She moved to her current post in February 2002, and is a member of the interdisciplinary Ageing & Health Group which carries out high quality integrated clinical, epidemiological, basic and social science research that translates into improving the health of older people. Dr Roberts' research interests in Parkinson's disease include movement analysis and early diagnosis.
Dr Roberts is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Vice Chair of the Movement Disorders Section of the British Geriatrics Society. She is a member of the DeNDRoN Clinical Studies Group for Parkinson’s disease. Dr Roberts also leads on Ageing Research within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Comprehensive Research Network, which she represents on the national Age and Ageing Speciality Group.
