What is a Task Force?
Definitions
A task force is about developing a whole range of research questions and ideas run in collaboration with specific partner organisations.
A writing group is about writing a proposal or a specific grant application. This can be a ‘stand alone’ idea from a researcher or group of researchers or as an outcome of a task force.
- A task force is a time-limited multidisciplinary group focussed on idea generation in specific topic area(s).
- Task forces bring together people with different expertise to identify research priorities and generate clinical research ideas, with a particular focus on research that would lead to significant improvements in the lives of those affected by the disease.
- DeNDRoN supports task forces in partnership with other organisations such as medical research charities and statutory research funders
How are task forces established?
Task forces are established in response to a specific identified need.
- Need may identified in a number of ways, by research funders, researchers, patients or carers, clinicians, or for example in response to specific research findings or advances in understanding
- The primary route through which decisions are made about establishing a task force is the Clinical Studies Groups
What is the output of task forces?
Outputs vary depending on the subject matter, but typically we would expect task forces to deliver:
- A report on the activities and ideas generated
- One or more Writing Groups to develop specific research proposals
How does DeNDRoN support task forces?
The DeNDRoN Co-ordinating Centre works with partner organisations to provide tailored support for task forces depending on their requirements.
- Typically a task force will usually involve the organisation of workshops, meetings and teleconferences to facilitate the process. It also involves working with members of the public affected by the issue being researched and the professionals involved in their care.
- Typically the DeNDRoN Co-ordinating Centre will provide management support through the Portfolio Development Manager, and administrative support through the Portfolio Administrator.
- Usually funding to support meetings, teleconferences etc. is provided by the DeNDRoN Co-ordinating Centre and one or more partner organisations
- Work space will be allocated on the DeNDRoN portal
